The NCCC has launched a new media campaign to raise awareness of the effects of cyberbullying, a problem that has led to teen suicide, school violence and depression. The 30- and 45-second commercials carry the tag line: "If you wouldn't say it in person, why say it online?" The PSA's will air on television and be streamed to sites like My Space.
The council is also distributing the code for banners that kids can display on their web pages:
Cyberbullying was also the topic of a CTAP workshop for educators and administrators in a 7-county area on Friday, March 16th. Guest speaker, Nancy Willard of the Center for Safe & Responsible Internet Use helped educate attendees on the roles and responsibilities of teachers and administrators amidst this rapidly escalating problem.
I'll be posting more about that later this week!
This was the second in a series of CTAP educator events on Cybersafety topics. Earlier this year, Anne Collier and Larry Magid spoke to classroom teachers, administrators and school law enforcement partners about My Space and their recently published book, My Space Unraveled (a must-read for educators and parents alike!) A CTAP team also spoke at the Governor's Cybersafety Summit. In addition, CTAP has distributed more than 6,000 Cybersafety Awareness posters to schools within the the 100+ districts of Region IV.
